Long-time Syracuse, Kansas resident, Marcella Bellinger (Lewis) (Elston) passed away at Hays Medical Center November 4, 2012 at the age of 63 after admirably enduring prolonged health issues. Over her last days at home in Hays, KS, she was surrounded by family and friends who cared for and loved her. Marcella was a driven and hardworking individual, who never stopped learning. Her strong faith and generosity exemplify her.
As the eldest of four children, Marcella was born in Syracuse, Kansas to parents James and Naomi (Stinchcomb) Elston on November 11, 1948. The family maintained a farm north of Kendall, KS. Marcella graduated from Syracuse High School in 1966. Marcella earned degrees in business, nursing, and elementary education. Marcella took great pride in her work as a geriatric RN. Over the course of 30+ years she held numerous positions. Marcella had a heart for her patients, who were always top priority in her job. Marcella donated her time, energy, and resources to support her community and family. She celebrated life whenever she could. Chances are that she probably celebrated life with you.
Marcella was married to David (Bradley) Lewis for 11 years and to this union they had 4 children: Myra, Lance, JoDee and Codi. In 1981, Marcella, a single mother of two, married Bruce Bellinger. They celebrated 31 years of marriage this past July. Throughout her life Marcella enjoyed traveling, crafts, games, conversation, and all kinds of gatherings and celebrations with friends and family. Marcella enriched other's lives by sharing her own.
Marcella was preceded in death by her parents, Jim (1981) and Naomi (2010) Elston; two children, Myra (1969) and Lance (1970) Lewis; and numerous aunts and uncles.
Marcella is survived by husband, Bruce Bellinger; three aunts, Shirley (Albert) Osbment of Lamar, CO, Maxine Coleman of Syracuse, KS, and Sandra (Larry) Goodwin of Cheney, KS; one brother, James Elston of Syracuse, KS; two sisters, Janice Jones (Roger Hedgecoth) of Dodge City, KS, and Debra Elston (Mitchell) of Washington D.C.; two daughters, JoDee (Harold) Moore of Fairmont, OK and Codi (Don) Fenwick of Hays, KS; 3 grandchildren, numerous cousins, nieces, nephews as well as great nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
