Louis "Bogus" Alvarez, Sr. was born on December 4, 1929 in Las Animas, Colorado to Bernardino and Ramona (Villa) Alvarez. He passed away on January 4, 2014 in La Junta, Colorado at the age of 84.
In May 1947, Louis joined the Army and was assigned to Beaumont General Hospital in El Paso, TX as a psych tech. After being discharged from the Army, he began working for the VA as a cook. Louis also joined the Colorado Army National Guard where he retired after 36 years as Sergeant of the Mess Section, 947th Med (Clr) Co. He married Elsie Martinez and had four children; Louis II, Janet, Rick, and Roman. They divorced and later he married Frieda Carbajal and together adopted three children; Robert, Margaret, and George. Louis had a passion for baseball and shared that passion with many children by coaching for over 30 years.
Louis is survived by his wife, Frieda of the home; children Louis Alvarez Jr. and wife, Lucy of Lawton, OK, Janet Alvarez of Las Animas, Rickie Alvarez and wife, Louise of Pueblo, CO, Roman Alvarez of Las Animas, Robert Alvarez and wife, Sandi of Rocky Ford, CO, Marjie Alvarez of Lincoln, NE, and George Alvarez of Iowa; sister, Virginia Montoya Alvarez of Springfield, CO; brothers, Angel Alvarez of Barstow, CA, and Bernie Alvarez of Redlands, CA; 27 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchild; many other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Adela Alvarez.
