Lola Rogers passed away Monday, February 10th at her Las Animas home surrounded by family members after battling three bouts with cancer and other health problems. She was born in Wray, Colorado on July 23, 1936 to Pierce and Cleo Doyle Garton. She and her family moved to Las Animas in 1976.
Lola was a kind, generous, and hard-working lady who flourished in her role as a mom, grandmother, great grandmother, and rancher's wife. Her greatest joy in life was her family, always putting their needs and those of friends before her own. She showed her affection for her loved ones by lavishing them with an array of delightful food preparations throughout the years.
She worked as a housekeeper for several Fort Lyon residents when the facility functioned as a Veterans Administration Hospital and was employed at Stough's Flower Shop for a short time. She enjoyed reminiscing about her childhood and the area where she grew up. Her brother Jay still resides on the family homestead in Castle Rock.
Lola left this world four years to the day after her husband, Frank Rogers. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Pierce and Cleo Garton; two sisters, Aileen Albertson and Valda Reed.
She is survived by two sisters, Sharon Hager of Golden, Co, and Mona Miller of Colorado Springs; one brother, Jay Garton and wife, Bev of Castle Rock; daughter, Dawn Orr and husband, Richard of Las Animas; son, Dale Rogers of Las Animas; granddaughters, Deandra Sharp and husband, Jarrod of Las Animas and Dana Wudtke and husband, Ray of Idalia, CO; and three great grandchildren, Keara Sharp, Wyatt and Bailey Wudtke.
