Harold Beryl Kortz was born on September 3, 1922 in Aztec, New Mexico to William and Edna (Douglas) Kortz. He passed away on October 17, 2013 at Bent County Nursing Center in Las Animas at the age of 91.
Harold enlisted in the Air Force on December 7, 1942, serving as a Gunner during WWII. He was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Sergeant on November 9, 1945.
On September 17, 1946 Harold was united in marriage to Betty Tacha in Meade, Kansas. They were blessed with a son and a daughter. Harold worked as a plant operator for the City of Las Animas Light and Power, retiring in 1965. They belonged to the United Methodist Church of Las Animas.
Mr. Kortz is survived by his wife, Betty Kortz of the home; son, Dale Kortz and wife, Catherine of Bayfield, Colorado; sister, Fern Becker of Garden City, KS; six grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; many other relatives and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Linda Collins in 1997; two brothers, Merle Kortz and Floyd Kortz; and sister, Virginia.
