Navy Emblem

Darrell D. Seufer passed away on February 1, 2013 at the Holly Nursing Care Center in Holly, CO at the age of 90. He was born, along with his twin brother, Jewell, to Fred and Lelia (Fowler) Seufer on July 8, 1922 in Holly, Colorado. Darrell and Jewell were born in the middle of a storm that blew out the front window of their grandparents' home. Darrell served in the U.S. Navy Construction Battalion (Seabees). He also boxed during his time in the Navy.
Darrell was united in marriage to Lorene Nazarenus in 1942, to this union was born a son, Tommy.
On November 27, 1947 Mary Lou and Darrell were united in marriage at Raton, NM. The night before their marriage, Darrell and Mary Lou borrowed Darrell's brother Jewell's car and drove all night with friends Elsie Tinsley and Beryl Cramblet. The car soon ran low on gas which prompted them to shut the heater off as it was also fueled by gas. At one point, late at night, they pulled into a gas station and decided to wait until it opened. At daylight after waiting several hours without heat, they realized the station had been closed for business for some time. They then continued on to Raton, NM where the four friends celebrated a double wedding.
Following their eventful marriage, Mary Lou and Darrell returned home to Holly and started their life together with Mary Lou's daughter, Jamie and Darrell's son, Tommy. Additional members to the family include daughter Peggy on November 1, 1948 and Becky on July 17, 1955, as well as a stillborn son, Kim Dean on May 24, 1951.
He served on the Amity Board, Buffalo Water Ditch Board, two terms on the Holly School Board, and was a Prowers County Commissioner for 16 years. Darrell's first love was fast horses and his win pictures. He had a passion for farming and loved his cattle. He loved his family dearly, especially his grandchildren.
